New JPP Website

After weeks of work, the new JPP website is now complete….there were only a few bugs and one malfunctioning plugin in the end, which is not too bad at all.

I am fairly happy with the result and it now allows me to do much more with the site…as well as being able to edit/add to it from my phone.

Have a look and let me know what you think….or if you encounter any bugs or broken links.

Bored Now

It has been a fun couple of months, but I am officially shutting down the Minecraft server, I enjoyed it thoroughly but have pretty much lost interest in building, although I will still play singleplayer as I have discovered IndustrialCraft=WIN!.

It really was a great experience and I built some pretty cool stuff.

I will be keeping a copy of the world file and who knows….maybe I will resurrect it some day.

If anyone would like a copy of the file, please let me know.

I believe this image sums it up:

Video Game Music Rip Offs

I was listening to my iPod the other day and a song came on called Mighty Wings by the band Cheap Trick…it took me a second to realise it but the song sounded exactly like Ken’s theme from street fighter.

I have inserted a clip from each below:

Ken’s theme from the SNES version of
Street Fighter 2

Cheap Trick’s – Mighty Wings
(from Top Gun Soundtrack)

I went online to check and I was right….this was one of the most famous cases of video games ripping off music and this is not an uncommon thing.

Take ‘Megaman’s Electric Man’/'REM’s – All the right friends’/'Journey’s – Faithfully’ for example – although this one is not a rip off as much as it is a tribute by REM and Megaman to Journey:

Megaman – Electric Man

R.E.M’s – All The Right Friends

Journey’s – Faithfully

This is only 2 examples…a quick Google / YouTube search will show hundreds of results…and this is not just with older games either…a recent game called Heavy Rain has a track that sounds very similar to one of the tracks from the film GATTACA.

Leave a comment if there are any really cool ones you know of.

Mugen

I stumbled across a really cool game a few weeks ago called MUGEN.

MUGEN is basically an open source fighting game where you can make your own characters, stages, sounds, moves….anything you want.

The game is free to download, but does not come with any characters and you need to download each character separately, which could take forever.

I managed to find someone on the internet selling a collection of over 3000 characters and stages…I have been going through them and below is a gallery of some of the best/weirdest characters, each has their own special moves and sounds. The only problem is that the game takes 1-2 minutes to load every time I want to play it.

(there were heaps more but It would take me forever to find them and I got lazy)

Minecraft – A Learning Experience

Well….it has been a few weeks since I launched my Minecraft server, and what an experience it has been.

I have learned much about the game as well as people in general.

I started off the server with very few rules….just wanting it to be somewhere people could come and build stuff…A Huge Mistake….as my server was greifed multiple times by multiple a**holes and filled up with children shouting expletives.

I have ended up banning a few people and implementing many rules….such as needing to register on my site to even be able to build and allowing people to protect their own blocks.

I now have 2 builders as well as myself working on the server and we have produced some pretty cool stuff.

If you would like to participate….please email me or register at the forum.
